Guildford Big Tree: A Living Landmark and Cultural Treasure

The Guildford Big Tree, a majestic Biyal (River Red Gum) on Djandak (Dja Dja Wurrung Country), has stood for more than 530 years, serving as a cultural marker and environmental haven. In February 2024, the tree shed several massive limbs but thanks to Djaara’s Guildford Biyal Project, this ancient tree will continue to inspire and unite the community for generations to come.

Begonias Can Flourish in Local Gardens

Tuberous Begonias originated in The Andes, particularly Bolivia, in a harsh environment. They tolerate minus 12 degrees and so are well suited to local winter conditions. Pete Harris from Whitehouse Nursery in Ashbourne spoke to the Daylesford Horticultural Society about care and propagation of begonias.
